Since 2011 Walter Reed National Military Medical Center has been providing care for United States servicemen and women as well as their families. Located in Bethesda, Maryland, Walter Reed is the result of the consolidation of the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. It is housed on the renovated campus of the former Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. It is the largest medical center of its kind in the country, and serves patients in the Washington, D.C. area, and also those who come from around the world and the United States. It’s designated a tertiary care destination, with over 100 specialties and clinics. Walter Reed has undergone a huge transformation, with new construction and renovation on the premises. For Wounded Warriors and their families, Walter Reed provides a full program for recovery that includes therapies, housing, transport, and programs to ease the transition, no matter what that entails. The campus is vast—243 acres and 2.4 million square feet of clinic space—and serves almost 1 million individuals each year. There are also branch clinics including the Pentagon Dental Clinic, primary care clinics for active duty personnel, and an occupational health clinic.
