The days are long and the temperatures are up – summer is in full swing here in the D.C. region! While most people associate this season with cookouts and trips to the beach, there are lots of great local events happening in and around Bethesda.
If you’re visiting D.C. or Montgomery County and are looking for some of the best things to do before the leaves start to change, this is the post for you. We’re talking about a few of our favorite events right here in Maryland that will make this summer one to remember for you and your loved ones.
Summer Concerts at Glen Echo Park
Every Thursday evening at 7:30 PM, check out the Bumper Car Pavilion at Glen Echo Park to enjoy exciting music on the banks of the Potomac. This free concert series organized by the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture will bring some prominent local and national performers to Bethesda this summer.
From brass bands to blues ensembles to Dixieland players, almost every genre will be represented at some point during the summer. Since the Pavilion is covered, concerts are held rain or shine. You can also grab food at the Praline at Glen Echo to enjoy a picnic with the music, or jump on the historic Dentzel Carousel between 7 and 9 PM. Check out the event website for a full schedule.
Comcast Outdoor Film Festival 2017
The largest outdoor movie screening series in the D.C. region returns this summer when the Comcast Outdoor Film Festival takes over the Strathmore Lawn. Beginning on August 24 at 7:30 PM, this free event welcomes you and your friends and family to enjoy some of the most popular recent movies.
Three movies will play between August 24 through August 26: Moana, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and The Lego Batman Movie. Feel free to bring blankets, low-rise chairs and small coolers, or purchase treats on-site from Ridgewells catering. Best of all, proceeds from the festival are donated to the NIH. For more details, check out the festival’s website.
TGIF Downtown Street Party 2017
What better way to end the week than with an exciting block party in one of Montgomery County’s best urban districts? Visit the Fountain Plaza in downtown Silver Spring during the second Friday of every month from August 11 through September 8 for a festival of music, games, drinks and dancing. DJ Damon will be playing hits from the 90s as well as a Latin Music Mix, while Nando’s Peri Peri and Lincoln’s BBQ offer beer and sangria stations. For more information, check out the party’s website.
Finding a summer hotel in Bethesda
If you’re planning a summer trip, booking a hotel should be the least of your worries. Offering complimentary WiFi, competitive room rates, and relaxing accommodations, the American Inn of Bethesda is the only name you need to know when you want to travel to D.C. or Montgomery County this summer.
