Weather experts in the region predict that the cold is behind us for now and warmer air is on the way. Rising temperatures also means spring is right around the corner, and we're already looking forward to its festivals, blossoms, and outdoor recreation. Here are a few of our favorite spring events in Bethesda and the surrounding area: 2017 Cherry Blossoms in D.C. The National Park Service hasn't yet issued its first official forecast of the season, but based on the warm weather expected in the region for the next few weeks, an early bloom for the cherry blossoms is likely. The National Park Service will probably provide their first peak bloom forecast in two or three weeks. The annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which usually begins during or just before peak bloom, runs from March 20 through April 16 in D.C. Events include a Blossom Kite Festival on April 1 and the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on April 8. Kenwood Cherry Blossoms and Spring Flowers If you're looking for a less-crowded way to catch some of the season's best blossoms, check out the Kenwood neighborhood in Bethesda. Kenwood has over 1,200 trees on some of its most prominent streets including Kennedy Drive and Dorset Avenue. To avoid parking issues, the best way to see Kenwood's blossoms is to check out the Capital Crescent Trail, an 11-mile trail from Georgetown to Silver Spring. A section of the trail goes over a stretch of Dorset Avenue with trees that put on a great display in the spring. Bethesda Film Fest Bethesda's 5th film fest showcases a handful of the best short documentaries produced in the region. Screenings will be held at the Imagination Stage at 7 PM on Friday, March 17 and 6 PM and 8 PM on Saturday the 18th. Tickets are $10 each on the Bethesda Urban Partnership website. Each screening will conclude with a discussion with the filmmaker. Choosing a spring hotel in Bethesda If you'll be traveling to Bethesda this spring, consider the American Inn for a first-rate hotel in Bethesda. Besides a convenient location near downtown Bethesda and two metro stops, the American Inn also offers competitive rates, comfortable accommodations, and a complimentary breakfast bar, making it an ideal place to host your spring vacation in D.C.
