Get Your Celebration On: Spring 2017 Festivals in D.C. and Bethesda

There’s more to celebrate in the spring than the end of cold temperatures and the arrival of seasonal flowers (though those are two of our favorites!). In the D.C. area, warmer weather allows people to come together and celebrate community and culture with great food and drinks. Here are some upcoming festivals and community events to look forward to:

2017 Anacostia River Festival

On Sunday, April 9 from 1 PM to 5 PM the 11th Bridge Park will host the third Anacostia River Festival, part of the larger 2017 Cherry Blossom Festival. Attendees will be able to canoe on the river, ride in a bike parade, and participate in workshops about rowing, mask making, wind chimes, and more. Musical performances by acts like the US Navy Band and The Wes Bles Quintet will begin as soon as the festival starts. Best of all, the Anacostia River Festival is free for the public!

Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival

Fireworks are used to celebrate victories, graduations, and major holidays, so why not spring as well? This year’s Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival happens on April 15 from 2 PM til 9:30 PM at The Wharf, located at 600-650 Water Street in D.C. The event includes food trucks, a beer garden, smoothie-making bar, body and face painting, cornhole, and live music. The actual fireworks display begins at 8:30 PM.

Filmfest DC 2017

It might not be an outdoor event, but that doesn’t make Washington, D.C.’s International Film Festival any less exciting. From April 20 through April 30, fans of cinema will be treated to 80 films from 45 different countries, playing at various locations throughout the District. The four participating theaters this year are AMC Mazza Gallerie in Friendship Heights, the Embassy of France, Landmark’s E Street Cinema, and the National Gallery of Art. This year’s films include a variety of genres, from action and adventure to social justice to music. Check out the festival’s website for tickets and full schedules.

Choosing a hotel in Bethesda or DC this spring

It’s no surprise that these and other fun events in the area attract people from all over the world. If you’ll be traveling to the DC region and want to stay somewhere comfortable with easy access to the metro, competitive rates, and plenty of amenities, consider the American Inn of Bethesda as you make plans to celebrate this year’s warmer season.
