Events to Celebrate Winter 2017 in Bethesda and D.C.

Winter brings out the fun, traditional holiday activities that families can all enjoy together. If you’re in the greater Bethesda/Montgomery County area, here are some of the best upcoming events to look forward to this winter:

Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland 2017

From 1 to 4 PM on Saturday, December 2, families and holiday enthusiasts from Bethesda and surrounding areas will attend the free Winter Wonderland event taking place in Veterans Park. Between 1 and 2 PM, watch an ice sculptor transform solid blocks of ice into gorgeous holiday-themed art pieces. After the demonstration, listen to student choirs from the local schools, share your wish list with Santa, and visit with the downtown Bethesda restaurants handing out delicious treats.

The 29th Annual Production of The Nutcracker by Metropolitan Ballet Theatre

During the first two weekends of December, the Metropolitan Ballet Theatre is presenting their traditional rendition of The Nutcracker. You’ll find student and professional dancers, marching toy soldiers, and giant mice included in the cast, along with a touch of magic and a flurry of snow. Watch this beautiful play at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center at Montgomery College in Rockville at 7:30 PM on Fridays, 12 PM and 4 PM on Saturdays, and 1 PM and 5 PM on Sundays. General admission is $26 at the door, though there are discounts for advanced purchase, seniors, students, and large groups.

2017 Holly Trolleyfest

On Saturdays and Sundays from December 2 to 23 at 12:30 to 4:30 PM, the National Capital Trolley Museum is hosting Holly Trolleyfest in Silver Spring. Christmas cheer will fill the air as you take a ride through Northwest Branch Park and visit with Santa. Also, tour Street Car Hall, explore Santa’s Garden in the museum’s auditorium, and see street cars featured in old silent film comedies. Tickets are $5 for children and seniors and $7 for adults.
