Memorial Day Weekend 2014 Activities Near Bethesda, MD

The DC area plays host to a large number of events paying tribute to those brave men and women who have given their lives in defense of our country. The 70th Annual Hometown Holidays Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade takes place on Monday, May 26, in the Rockville, Maryland, Town Center. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., enjoy live music on five stages, fun kids’ activities, and a Taste of Rockville, featuring food and drinks from the best local restaurants.

On the same day in Washington, DC, the National Memorial Day Parade begins at 2 p.m. Sponsored by the American Veterans Center, the parade is televised to military troops overseas. Catch a glimpse of Miss America 2014, Grand Marshal Lt. Col. Richard E. Cole, and actor Gary Sinise, among other celebrity parade participants. The parade begins on Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, NW. It passes the White House and terminates at 17th Street. If you like your parades with a small town feel, head to Falls Church, Virginia. The Memorial Day Parade and Festivities start at 10 a.m., in Cherry Hill Park, with fun amusement park rides, crafts, children’s activities, food, and of course the parade.

On Sunday, May 25, the Rolling Thunder XXVII returns with their annual motorcycle rally to draw the government’s attention to recognition and protection of Prisoners of War (POWs) and those Missing in Action (MIAs).  For the best view points, try Arlington Memorial Bridge and Constitution Avenue as well. If you’re in Silver Spring, Maryland, and looking for a good workout, the Memorial Day Zumba Bash with Zukossa Fitness will burn up those weekend calories. The 90-minute workout takes place at Galway Elementary School, starting at 10 a.m.  Also, for those 21+, the Pink & White Rooftop Party on Sunday, May 25 starts at 7 p.m., at the W Hotel in D.C.
